Don’t ya love good Before and After photos? It’s so dramatic to see someone who used to weigh 900 pounds and is now down to a size 0. Or looks jaw-droppingly younger because they had their hair cut and colored by an expert on a makeover show.
Well, this week I’ve got some Before and Afters of my own to show you - - a remodel project I did a while back, creating a fireplace where there used to be just a bare wall. (I know. You thought I had dyed my hair chartreuse.)
The Nicest Couple Ever had just moved to town to be closer to their grandkids and wanted to add some interest to their blah and boring family room. They dreamed of a new, glamorous gas fireplace, distressed hardwood floors and cabinets for a larger flat screen TV. They just didn't have the first idea about how to pull everything together.
This is what their room looked like the first time I went over to meet them.
Not much to write home about, huh? (Oops. That was a pun just there.)
So, we went to work putting together a plan, taking measurements, getting estimates, going out on shopping trips for stone and flooring, and picking out paint colors.

I also did a quick 3D drawing so we could see how the fireplace and cabinets would come together. Lots of details to work out - - nothing is ever simple!
After a couple of months of work by cabinet makers, gas line and flooring installers, electricians, painters, and a construction contractor who framed in and tiled the fireplace, it was finally done and time for the After photos, and were we excited!

Hard to believe it's the same room, but there ARE witnesses. :-D Best of all, they LOVED it.
