Let's face it - - we probably all have a boring or unfinished room (true confession: mine is my master bath); and one simple way to banish boredom is create a color palette and then put it to work in your space. How do you do that, you ask? EASY PEASY, I say, and you don’t even have to be a designer to pull it off.
start with artwork
When I decorate a room, I like to start with a piece of artwork and use that as a jumping off point for the rest of the room. And you can do the same thing with pretty much anything you have hanging on your wall.
There are lots of things you may like about YOUR favorite art piece: the theme or subject, the feeling it gives you when you look at it, and of course, the COLORS the artist used. And Ta Da - - there’s your color palette! It’s that simple. (And the crowd goes wild!)
move it around
Pick two or three of the colors you like best in the painting or print or whatever your inspiration is, and use them in different intensities and textures all around the room - - maybe one color for your walls and upholstered furniture, another color for your throw pillows, a rug, curtains, etc. Or use different intensities of just one color for a beautiful monochromatic look.
If you still feel a little lost, try the Color Snap app (hey, that rhymes!) from Sherwin Williams.
Install it on your favorite electronic device, then upload a photo of anything or hover over an internet photo, click the Snap It button, and it will create a color palette for you. Again with the easy peasy!

I've used green and taupe on some of my walls, gold/orange in a rug and pillows, and orange accents to bring all that color around my room.
I’ve got lots of stunning photos on my Color Inspiration Pinterest board that have used a version of Color Snap, but I like that Sherwin Williams gives you the specific name and number of the color.
