Hi, I'm Julie, Chief Executive Empress

of my little apple green design studio.

Welcome to my blog!

When I'm not out visiting a client or searching for just the right  product for a project, I can probably be found in my happy little studio (painted the perfect shade of green), busy drawing up new ideas for a cool kitchen or a "spa-licious" bathroom. I like to share the fun stuff I find along the way!

RANDOM NOTES FROM MY LITTLE

apple green studio

How to know you're going to love your new paint color

how to pick a paint color

So your room’s looking a little dingy and you’d like to freshen it up with a new paint color. You head down to the big home improvement store and you’re confronted with a WALL of paint samples. You take home a fistful of those little cards with the miniature color chips and now you’re paralyzed with fear.

How do you decide on a color?!!

You're not sure how it's going look on a huge wall from that little piece of color the size of your fingernail!

How do you know if you're going to like it? What if you paint the whole room and hate it?

There’s an easier way to pick a paint color you love, and save time, money and frustration. Here's what I do for my clients and you can do the same thing: go back to the paint store and pick up a sample-sized jar of your favorite colors (many stores have these now), a few of those disposable foam brushes and some big sheets of inexpensive poster board from the dollar store.

Now paint the entire piece of poster board with your sample paint. A GIANT paint card makes it SOOOO much easier to pick a color than painting a bunch of splotches on the wall. You can easily tack it up on different walls and hold it next to furniture or artwork you need to match.

Leave your paint card up on the wall and live with it for a few days. Look at the color throughout the day in different light. And light is EVERYTHING!

If the color's not right, you're only out a few bucks, and you can easily try other colors. If you love it, you're ready to spring for a few gallons!
