Hi, I'm Julie, Chief Executive Empress

of my little apple green design studio.

Welcome to my blog!

When I'm not out visiting a client or searching for just the right  product for a project, I can probably be found in my happy little studio (painted the perfect shade of green), busy drawing up new ideas for a cool kitchen or a "spa-licious" bathroom. I like to share the fun stuff I find along the way!

RANDOM NOTES FROM MY LITTLE

I'd forgotten how much I hate shopping

shopping

I’d forgotten just how much I hate shopping until a couple days ago. You’re probably thinking “whaaaat?” Isn’t that what interior designers DO? They shop for a living, right? Well, not exactly. And especially not THIS kind of shopping. Now, if we were talking about shopping for home furnishings, tile, fabric . . . then yes. I could do that ALL day. I don't hate that. I LOVE that. When I’m shopping for design clients, I feel confident and unstoppable and hip and with it. In my mind, I look very much like that fabulous girl up there. But sadly I’m not talking about furniture and accessories. This is about CLOTHES shopping, and specifically dresses. Nearly as bad as a root canal. Shudder. I haven’t had to wear a schmancy dress for many years, and I’m quite happy with that. But I have a wedding to go to this afternoon. And not just any wedding, but my niece’s wedding, an outdoor summer weddingwhich means barely there dresses. Speaking for myself, when you’re of a certain age and a few pounds have crept on, little party dresses have been relegated to the past. The distant past. The stone age of clothing. So I mean it when I say I had NOTHING to wear and was dreading the shopping. When I absolutely couldn’t put it off any longer, I headed out to find some non-ugly thing to wear. "Despair" is probably the right word to describe my emotional state when I’m confronted by a whole warehouse full of racks of dresses stretching out for miles. It’s depressing to face the fact that I’m going to have to try on 157 things that make me feel less like that cool girl above and more like this girl:

shopping

That day I was ready to either make an emergency call to a celebrity stylist, or give in and stock up on muu-muus. Sighing and whining. I’m telling you my sad shopping tale to let you know that if you tell me that YOU hate shopping for furniture, or that tile and fabric stores give YOU panic attacks, I know EXACTLY how you feel. It’s scary and exhausting, and it makes your feet hurt all over your whole body. The next time you’ve got a remodel or room re-design project you want to get done and you’re overwhelmed with the acres of products and the hours of shopping it’s going to take, don’t panic, call me instead. I may despair over finding the right dress to wear, but I AM an expert at shopping for things for your home, and I love pulling together all the details that are going to make you feel relaxed and comfortable and confident in your space. AND it will free you up to do something you love which may even be clothes shopping. Imagine. :-D

P.S. All the best to Morgan and Andrew on your happy day. May you always find the right thing to wear, and may your home and life together always be beautiful!
